Death Valley National Park encompasses approximately 3 thousand square miles, mostly in California. It is an area of little moisture and extreme heat; claimed to be among the hottest places on earth. The Bad Water salt flats are aptly named because, though the water may appear all right to drink, the salt content is enough to severely injure or kill a person. At 282 feet below sea level Bad Water Basin is the lowest place in the United States.
The severity of the climate and cycles of nature give Death Valley a most surreal beauty.
