Originally opened in 1791 Custom House was the center for arriving and departing shipping in Dublin. Over the years the Dublin port was moved farther and farther down river and Custom House became obsolete. It was used to house government offices until the IRA destroyed it in 1921. It was then rebuilt by the Irish Free State. Restoration and cleaning was done in 1980.
