Photo of Dublin Castle- Dublin, Ireland.
Dublin Castle was the seat of English power in Ireland from 1171 to 1921. After the Anglo-Irish war the castle was given over to the newly formed Irish government in 1922. Today it is an administrative complex for the Republic of Ireland and used for state ceremonies and receiving foreign heads of state. Since 1938 It is also the sight for the inauguration of the Taoiseach (Prime Minister) of Ireland. In Irish the word Taoiseach means "Chieftan".
