Mazeroski's Wall
Photo of "Mazeroski's Wall" in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh. The 1960 World Series was played between the New York Yankees and the Pittsburgh Pirates. On October 13, 1960, in the last of the 9th inning, in the 7th game, Pirates Hall of Fame second baseman, Bill Mazeroski, hit a 1-0 pitch over the left field wall to win the game 10-9 for Pittsburgh. It is considered one of, if not THE, greatest finishes in sports. In the series The Yankees out hit the Bucs 91 to 60 and outscored the Pirates 55 to 27, but made twice as many errors 8-4. As Yanks catcher Yogi Berra said after the game: "We made too many wrong mistakes."
When Forbes Field was torn down in 1971 this portion of the left field wall was saved from demolition.
