The Bridge of Sighs
Black & white image of the Bridge of Sighs in Pittsburgh PA. The Bridge of Sighs is an enclosed arch walkway connecting the Allegheny County courthouse to the jail. It was easy to transport prisoners safely and securely between the buildings for their legal adjudications. That's how it got its name. The old jail has been closed and a new one built about 10 blocks away so the bridge is no longer used for prisoner transport.
